Marla McMahon: Psychotherapist integrating meditation, yoga, and more! Thanks for doing this interview 🙂
What do you offer in the community?
I offer holistic psychotherapy for many conditions including stress, anxiety, weight issues, and depression for adults and adolescents. My approach to working with my clients includes mindfulness meditation, breathwork, yoga psychotherapy, iRest yoga nidra, relaxation training, and mindful eating. I also teach therapeutic yoga nidra, mindfulness meditation, and mindful eating workshops at several yoga studios in town.
Quite unique! What led you to offering that?
After being in the psychology field for more than fifteen years, I brought my love of yoga and meditation to my therapeutic work. I found that bringing therapy onto the mat through yoga and meditation offered a healing approach to my clients. I found this to be a valuable addition to traditional psychotherapy.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love being able to teach clients relaxation skills and how to better manage their mood holistically. So many of my clients have been able to stay off antidepressants and other medications through the combination of talk therapy, yoga, and meditation.
What inspires you?
Over the years, I’ve met so many people dealing with much hardship in their lives including past trauma, terminal illness, and other difficult circumstances. I am inspired by the way these individuals have the inner strength to meet these difficulties with grace.
What are you looking forward to in the future?
I look forward to ongoing research in the field of meditation, yoga, and healthy eating for psychological conditions. I look forward to our country being more interested in holistic health care and reducing the number of individuals on psychiatric medications.
Why do you like being a part of WellBEing Resource?
I enjoy hearing about other individuals in the area offering wellness and healing in a holistic approach.
Would you like to offer something special for WellBEing Resource readers?
I would like to offer 10% off the initial consultation to WellBEing readers.
Thanks so much Marla!
