Green Tea’s Enhancing Affect on Meditation

By Jacquelynn Knoll:

Green tea is an amazing beverage that has many health benefits as well as a great taste. One of the lesser-known benefits of green tea is its ability to support and enhance meditation. Drinking green tea before, during, or after meditation can provide many benefits that can help improve one’s meditation practice.

Green tea has many antioxidant properties that can help reduce stress. This can be especially beneficial during meditation, as stress can be a major hindrance when trying to achieve a meditative state. The antioxidants in green tea can also help to improve mental focus and clarity, which is essential when trying to reach a meditative state. By reducing stress and improving mental clarity, green tea can help make it easier to reach a meditative state.

Green tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that is known to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. This can be helpful when meditating, as it can help to reduce distractions and make it easier to focus on the present moment. Additionally, the L-theanine in green tea can help to improve one’s mood and increase feelings of calm.

Finally, green tea has a mild diuretic effect, which can help to relax tense muscles and improve circulation. This can be beneficial for those meditating, as improved circulation can help to reduce feelings of discomfort and relaxation can help to improve focus.

Overall, green tea is an excellent choice for those looking to enhance their meditation practice. The antioxidants, L-theanine, and mild diuretic effect of green tea can help reduce stress, improve mental clarity, and increase relaxation, which can all help to make meditation more effective. So next time you meditate, try drinking some green tea for an extra boost!

Re-Boot with Epsom Salts!

epsom-salt-baths-1{By Nicole Mark; Bio at bottom of post}

I often surprise my clients when I recommend they take a hot bath with Epsom salts to refresh their mind, body and spirit. It may sound crazy, but that $4 carton of salts you have stored in your cupboard may be just the ticket for a quick and inexpensive pick-me-up in times of trouble!

Epsom salts are a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, both of which are more easily absorbed through the skin than the stomach. Our magnesium levels have dropped significantly in the last century due to farming practices that have depleted magnesium from the soil and due to diets high in fat, sugar, salt, and protein… all of which cause magnesium insufficiency.

Replenishing your magnesium and sulfate levels can improve heart and circulatory health, improve use of insulin, reduce toxins (from medications and the environment), flush heavy metals, improve nerve function by electrolyte regulation, restore calcium levels, increase serotonin (lifts the mood and reduces stress), reduce inflammation and pain, improve absorption of nutrients, improve formation of  brain tissue, and reduce migraine headaches.

So the next time you are feeling tired, toxic, depressed, achy, stressed or sick, simply dissolve 2-6 cups, depending on the severity of your symptoms, of Epsom salts in a hot bath. Soak for as long as you can tolerate it, re-warming the bath often and rehydrating the body as needed. After your soak you will likely enjoy a fresh perspective, a rejuvenated body, and a deeper connection to the spirit.

“Happy Pills” for New Moms: Placenta Encapsulation

Post by Tamara Morales, The Placenta Mom:

Happy_Pills_resized“Placenta is a valuable tool for women recovering from pregnancy and childbirth and many mothers worldwide benefit from the placenta’s healing properties. Thankfully, despite our western culture viewing the placenta merely as a by-product of birth, more and more women in our area are embracing the time-tested wisdom of placental remedies, and are rediscovering how these remedies can transform their postpartum experience.

Moms of all walks of life enjoy the benefits their placenta capsules have to offer them during their transition into motherhood and for the last three years I have been honored to help these moms during this amazing time of their lives as a local Placenta Encapsulation Specialist.

The placenta contains a rich array of the mother’s own hormones that assist with milk production, bonding, and recovery; boosts energy levels and immune function; and reduces inflammation, postpartum bleeding, and stress. It also contains high levels of iron, protein, nutrients, and minerals to help the mother recover and rebuild following her pregnancy and childbirth.

Mothers who take placenta capsules report earlier and enhanced breastmilk production, less postpartum bleeding, more energy, and a faster, more pleasant postpartum recovery. Placenta capsules can also reduce the incidence and severity of postpartum depression, and help new mothers to cope with stressful life transitions. Most  people think placenta capsules only has to do with PPD, but as the above list of benefits shows it really involves so much more and really comes down to balance and general well being for the new mother.

My PlacentaMom clients call their placenta capsules their “happy pills” and say they would never give birth without doing this for their postpartum period.

Is your placenta in your birth plan?

The Importance of Natural Skin Care

Written by Gina Cornacchioli

Paying careful attention to product ingredient labels is important, but it can be confusing at times. It’s important that ingredients in skin care and cosmetics are non-toxic, free from parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, artificial scents, and gluten. All these ingredients can cause inflammation and clogged pores.

The products you put on your skin are equally as important as the types of food you eat. In order to keep the skin healthy and maintain lasting results, use quality ingredients that are rich in antioxidants, extracts from plants, and use aquatic based preservatives. Healthy ingredients will help to promote your skins own healing process, build up the tissue, and give you the lasting results that you need without causing injury, and keeping your skin beautiful.

There are ingredients in your cupboard that are beneficial to your health and healing to your skin, such as Green tea which is anti-inflammatory and has polyphenols that fight against the oxidation of the skin cells. Honey, when applied topically, helps heal irritations and hydrates the skin. Ground almonds, used as a base, can make homemade exfoliants. These are just a few of many examples.
